Early Life Witwisit Hirunyawongkul, popularly nicknamed Pich and Pchy, was born and raised in a Christian-Catholic family in Chiang Mai, North of Thailand. A talented singer, Pich was the lead singer in his high school band and music has always been a big part of his life.
Pich enjoys Hip Hop, R&B, Gospel and Soul music. He plays the piano and composes music in his free time. Besides music, Witwisit is also a fan of the Japanese manga series Nodame Cantabile and Lomography.
In fact, he brought his camera to the set of The Love of Siam. His favourite quote is "No one is PERFECT".
Student Life
Pich attended Montfort College, a pretigious school in Chiang Mai. He entered the Thai entertainment business at the age of 17 while he was still in grade 12.
He was discovered in his hometown by Chukiat Sakweerakul, writer and director of The Love of Siam.
Chukiat is an alumni of Montfort College and met Pich because of their common music interests. At grade 12, Pich decided that he would major in Communications in university.
In one of the interview, he expressed "I like to write and tell stories, my friends always tell me they enjoy reading what I write."
He was admitted to Faculty of Communications, Chiang Mai University. He declined the offer because he had already started filming The Love of Siam at that time
and knew that if he wants to continue being in the entertainment business, he would have to move to Bangkok.
Later, he was admitted to Faculty of Journalism and Mass Comunication, Thammasat University, Bangkok.
He started his first year of university around mid 2007 and intended to concentrate on film/screen writing.
Acting Career Career Debut
During his school's summer break in 2006, Pich and several of his classmates took a trip to Bangkok and visited a film shooting site of "13 Beloved" also directed by Chukiat Sakweerakul.
He was then invited to play an extra in the film. Only his arm could be seen.
The Love of Siam
Chukiat Sakweerakul picked Pich to play "Mew", one of the leading characters in The Love of Siam, because the role requires the actor to sing and playing the piano.
Chukiat also found Pich very natural at acting. Pich's good looks also contributed to the casting.
Pich was aware that the film would involve love between two highschool boys with a kissing scene.
He took the role because he trusted that the director would present the scenes in the movie in a good way.
When asked about the most talked about scene from the movie,
Pich credited the camera angle and said that the director told him to practice by kissing his own arm. In The Love of Siam, Pich played "Mew", a lonely high school boy who lived alone after his grandmother's demise.
Mew is a musical talent; he is the songwriter and lead singer of an allboy band called August.
The band's first single 'Ticket' was a hit among teenagers.
However, the producer of the band wanted Mew to write songs with more universal theme: love.
The producer argued that "95 % of hit songs are love songs" and told Mew "At your age,it's easy to write a love song."
The task was however difficult for Mew, as he had lived 5 years without love after the death of his grandmother.
However, Mew's life changed after he ran into Tong, his childhoold friend, in Siam Square.
After Tong came into his life, Mew seemed to be able to write love songs naturally.
A large part of the movie revolved around Mew's question about love "if you love someone, can you bear losing that person?
But can you live without loving anyone at all? What about the rest of your life?"
Although Pich was relatively unknown to the public at the time of movie release, the audiences were immediately impressed by his portrayal of Mew.
They were captured by his charm, sweetness and ability to display vulnerability on screen. When asked about his favourite part, Pich said that the scene that he played best was one when Tong's mother
(played by Sinjai, one of Thailand's biggest stars) came to confront Mew at home.
Pich told a reporter "If I had to go back and act in that scene again, I'm not sure if I could be as good as before." The audiences were stuck with the images of Mew that Pich portrayed onscreen.
In the movie, Mew is sweet, sensitive and charming. Naturally, fans want to find out what Pich is like in real life.
Fans look through information on the internet including his personal weblogs and follow his interviews when he appeared in promotional events.
They found out that Pich in real life, he is more like a straighttalking and quick-wit teenager than what was portrayed as Mew's character.
Nevertheless, fans still find the real Pich charming and continue to adore him.
Music Career
Pich has always been involved in music since his early years. His first public work was singing the original soundtrack song for the movie "Khao Niew Moo Ping."
In The Love of Siam soundtrack, he also contributed several songs.
He even composed the music and wrote the lyrics of the song "Ru Suek Bang Mai" (Do you feel...?).
Pich explained that he found inspiration to write the song after his friend consulted him about love problem.
The on-screen August has also become a real band with Pich as the lead singer.
Pich and August started their group career by singing and playing in The Love of Siam's promotional events.
Soon organisers wanted the band to play in music festivals and many other events.
The audience were impressed by the young band member's ability to play instruments and their teenage energy.
Pich is proven to be excellent singing live and a good stage entertainer.
The 11-member band (including Pich) released their first album "August*Thanx" as a band in February 2008.
The Price of Fame
The Love of Siam was filmed from December 2006 to early 2007. Pich had to travel back and forth between Chiang Mai and Bangkok for the filming.
Between the time the movie was completed and released,
Pich completed his high school and moved to Bangkok to attend Thammasat University and lived as an ordinary student.
After The Love of Siam was released in late November 2007, Pich became famous almost instantly, especially among young Thais.
Soon his fans started to search for his information, followed him to all the events he attended, taking thousands of his photos and posted on the internet.
Some went as far as following him to his dormitory. Pich was initially very uncomfortable with the attention.
He told a reporter, "I would like to go back and live a normal life." Also, he mentioned that he would prefer working behind the scene in the future. Fortunately, Pich seemed to have adjusted to his new life.
In one of his interviews, he commented "I appreciate my fans, it's nice to know they are following my work.
They had understood me and kept the right distant."
Several fanclub websites have been set up and Pich occasionally writes or replies to his fans on the webboard.
Controvesy Pich and Mario One of the factors contributing to The Love of Siam's success is the chemistry between Mew and Tong, played by Mario Maurer, now a rising star in Thailand.
Pich told reporters Mario and him are just good friends.
He credited film editing for the good chemistry displayed on-screen. "We are not that sweet to each other," Pich laughed.
"Usually, when having dialogue in the movie, we were facing different cameras."
On the movie set, Pich's eyes usually met the film crews, who made sure he made the right expression.
Snob? Because Pich had initially expressed his discomfort with fame, some reporters interpreted that he did not like the entertainment business. Some went as far as calling him a snob. Chukiat Sakweerakul who has become his mentor told Lips Magazine that
"Pich is very direct with his facial expression, when he is tired or bored, his facial expression just shows."
Chukiat has taught Pich that "You study Journalism and Communications, it would be strange if you say you don't like fame!" Now, Pich has adjusted to his life as a public figure.
Work after "Siam"
Acting In 2008, Pich appeared in the music video for female Thai R&B singer Nasnan's song, "Hak Tur Mod Rak"(If You Have Lost Your Love), as the singer's love interest. In the MV, Pich played Nasnan's boyfriend whose love started to wane and became involved with another girl.
In one of the scenes, he was slapped in the face by Nasnan. Pich also acted in a short film called "Dopamine," also directed by Chukiat. The film revolves around the question "What is love?"
Music Pich continues to sing on stage regularly with his band, August. To create widespread awareness about the campaign, Dove has invited Pich and Chukait Sakweerakul to compose and sing a very special song entitled "Chao Wan Mai" (Better Morning).
The song was composed specially for Dove and reflects Dove’s commitment to empowering women, for them to gain more self-confidence,
feel good about their own selves, and encourage them into making something good for themselves and the society every morning.
The CD, which is not for sale, will also be given to women throughout Bangkok, together with Dove Therapy System with Repairing Serum samples.
August Band also appeared together in a TV commercial of instant noodle, Mama. The public of course demand more public appearances from Pich. However, Pich wants to concentrate on his study, "if the job offered is in conflict with my studies, I won't take it."
Chukiat who is also songwriter and producer for August told Lips Magazine that Pich really feels part of August band
and he would not take jobs offers that ask him to go solo.
As Thai schools are in summer break between March - Early June 2008, August (whose members are all students) has held several mini-concerts in Bangkok
and will play in an auditorium concert in Chiang Mai in early April 2008.
Awards and Nominations In 2008, Witwisit was nominated in the Best Actor category in the Thailand National Film Association Awards for his breakthrough role in The Love of Siam. Pich was the youngest nominee in the category. I really want to share more opinions of mine here with all of you, fans of "the love of siam ". And also there's some background music original from the movie that I want to share with you.
When it comes to the question of "why do you like the love of Siam", it's hard to tell.
Maybe the reason is the love lesson I learn from the story, the memories it brings me back to the old days, or it’s just the tears of Mew and the smile from Tong. The well-written dialog is the key to this movie and the driving force to the audience, which makes me think in tears what love really is. Everyone knows the old saying that “Where there is a will, there is way”, which means as long as a person possess a strong will and firm determination he will certainly fulfill his wishes no matter how difficult it is. But this is not the case in LOVE. Because love is not a task to accomplish but the feelings to convey. So you can say, “Where there is love , there is hope. ” Love makes a commitment in response to deep affection, and then continues to act committed when the affection seems to disappear. The ultimate love may be unconditional, and it makes you feel the hope. With love, Mew's grandmother stays in the old house, missing his husband; with love, Mew chooses to stay alone in that house, waiting for Tong, for Tang, or for no one; with love, Ying does a lot of things for Mew, nearly all of which are in vain, but she still loves Mew, and she helps Tong fulfill his wishes, hopes Mew will be happy; with love, Tong spends more than 5 years to give a complete wooden doll to Mew, which is full of his love to Mew; with love, Tong’s mother supports the family wholeheartedly and especially gives his husband love and tolerance; with love, Tong takes on his responsibility to his family and be bold not to hide his love to Mew: I cannot be your boyfriend, but it doesn’t mean I didn’t love you; with love Mew smiles at Tong and says thank u to the doll, which makes him understood the love around him and the breath Tong gives him in a never lonely world… It is true love that touches the fragile part of people’s heart and soothes the sorrow as bad stuff gets in way. (to be continued... We all learn how to grow up through love, not only in happiness but also in pain. And I really want to share some description of love with all of you : "If I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. At this moment , I want to say: Chokdee, Mew. Chokdee, Tong. At last, there's another quote to share: “Please enjoy the pain which is unable to avoid.” The scene that Mew tells Tong his feeling of loneliness while they are both lying in bed is so moving to me, and the background music is one of my favorite in the Soundtrack though it's a pity I didn't find in the OST+_+, so my friend helps extract it from the movie. the song which mew heard in ying's home, song by zhang yingyin(张莺音)，says, "where there is love, there is hope". i check the chinese lyric of the song, but i can't the corresponding sentence. how it comes? I am puzzled with one sitution of the movie Why YING's brother was quite sure about that MEW is a gay. we can't get it from the previous part of the film 对于YING得哥哥十分确定MEW是GAY感到十分疑惑，因为电影里面没有任何片段有暗示MEW早就是GAY了。 Jag ：Because of YING's family were MEW's neighbour for 6 years. Ladyboy = Transgender homosexual who prefer to completely change their sex to female through operation for example. Or they may dress up like a lady. that's why we call 'lady boy'. Hope you guys get a better picture. At the end of the day we are all the same - human. do u know when can we watch the movie which doesn't cut by director? 完整版DVD大概何时发行。 Actually the DC edition was shown in a limited theatre in Bangkok as well becuz the duration is very very long 3 Hr and 40 Mins the only thing i can tell u is that it will be Avaiable in DVD by the end of this month but becuz it also contain the woody doll therefore you need to reserve it before buying it and at the moment the reservation number is flying through the top of the ceiling means some of the ppl who book it may not getting it 实际上完整版只在曼谷有限的几家电影院上映，因为完整版的时间实在太长了，足足有3小时40分钟，我所能告知的只是完整版DVD将在本月底发行，但因为完整版有包括木偶，所以必须提前预定才行，因为太受欢迎了，现在的预订已经超出原本的货存，所以有些已经预订的人都可能没有办法拿到。

Have you all ever wonder why the missing part is not an eye, ear or etc. Nose means breath ... without breath we could not survive. Tong gave Mew 'a missing piece' in Mew's life which is 'Love' and breath to live on. However, the love he gave somehow is not what Mew expected -- boyfriend. That's why the nose was not fit into the wooden doll. It is a implicit or hidden meaning. I would say the director paid a lot of attention to every details. I hope you find it meaningful and touchy as I do.
